The North Harrison Lady Shamrocks broke out of a tight first half to beat Pattonsburg 43-27 for the title of the Gilman City Invitational Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Panthers led 8-4 early in the game before Payton Craig hit two straight shots to tie the game 8-8. Haley Craig blocked a shot and hit a 3-pointer as the Shamrocks took a 21-19 halftime lead.
North Harrison began pulling away in the third quarter as Payton took over the scoring and Brandy Rivet hit a pair of free throws. Kiley Gibson hit a banker and Rivet made a 1-and-1 to take a 34-23 lead with 6:30 left in the game.
Payton Craig finished with 15 points, while Haley Craig had 8 points and Brandy Rivet 7. Haleigh Plymell scored 13 points to lead the Panthers.
North Harrison’s girls defeated Princeton 53-29 in the semifinals of the Gilman City Tournament. Haley Craig torched Princeton with 27 points and Payton Craig added 13 points.
The Lady Shamrocks were ahead 23-9 at the half. North Harrison crushed Tri-County 48-9 on Tuesday night in the opening game of the tournament.
In the other girls’ semifinal game, Pattonsburg edged Gilman City 50-45 to advance to the championship game to play North Harrison. Hayleigh Plymell led the Lady Panthers with 26 points. Dariane Carey was the Lady Hawks leading scorer with 14 points.
Princeton beats Bobcats for title
Princeton used its height to beat the East Harrison Bobcats 63-37 for the boys’ title of the Gilman City Tournament.
East Harrison kept the game close behind the shooting of Ethan Claycomb and Waylen Carlson before yielding to the Tigers in the second quarter. Claycomb had three 3-pointers during the night and finished with 13 points.
Princeton’s big men 6-3 Hunter Boxley and 6-10 Stephan Elliott were tough for the Bobcats to handle, finishing with 20 and 13 points respectively. Elliott picked up his fifth foul late in the game.
Waylen Carlson added 10 points for the Bobcats.
East Harrison outscored Pattonsburg 47-22 in the semifinals on Thursday night. Logan Carlson led the Ridgeway-Cainsville team with 17 points including a pair of 3-pointers.
Princeton’s boys defeated Gilman City 75-41 to advance to the championship game. Stephan Elliott led the Tigers with 17 points. High point man for the Hawks was Cornelius Terry who had 15 points.
Logan Pankau scored 21 points to lead Pattonsburg to a 62-32 win over Gilman City in the boys’ third place game on Saturday afternoon. Cornelius Peery had 16 points for the Hawks.
