McCook, NE: Sherry Waline (Weber) Cotton, age 88, passed peacefully into heaven surrounded by all her children on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Neb. She was a caring faithful person loved by all who had the joy of knowing her.

Born on February 24, 1936, in McCook, Nebraska to Walter & Lucille (Wagner) Weber, she spent her youth in McCook attending various primary schools before graduating from McCook High School in 1954.

Sherry married her first husband in the fall of 1954 in McCook, Neb. and worked at Hestad’s Variety Store, Sears, and was the bookkeeper for McCook Packing Plant. After 11 years this marriage ended.

On November 18, 1965, Sherry married Paul Cotton in McCook and became a loving mother to his three children Dale, Judy and Jane. To this union were born three additional children, David, Patricia, and Sonya. The family lived on a farm south of McCook until moving to Missouri in 1967, settling in Coffey, Mo., in 1971. She was a homemaker who also enjoyed watching several of the neighborhood children. Sherry loved cooking and baking and was well known in the community for her cinnamon rolls. She spent time in many kitchens over the years having owned Cotton’s Café, cooking at the Gallatin Senior Center, Coffey School, McCook Senior Center, and Kinship Pointe. She also enjoyed volunteering and delivered meals on wheels, drove the Handi bus, and made lap blankets for the elderly.

Through the entirety of her life, Sherry was very strong in her faith and lived her life devoted to God. She read her bible every day and attended church every Sunday for as long as she was able.

One of Sherry’s greatest loves was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and traveling with her sister, Jean Elley. Over the years Sherry lived near her family in Missouri, Iowa, and ended up returning to McCook, Neb. in 2018.

Sherry was proceeded in death by her Husband; parents; sister, Genevieve Kuck, sisters-in-law, Lucille Stitt, Juanita Weber, and Henrietta Weber; brothers-in-law, Bruce Kuck, Glen Stitt, and Bill Elley; nephews, Tim Elley, Bob Fouts, and Keith Weber.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Dale (Gloria) Cotton, McCook, Neb., Judy Cotton, McCook, Neb., Jane (Jim) Martin, McCook, Neb., David (Heather) Cotton, Smithville, Mo., Patricia (Vince) McWilliams, Bates City, Mo., Sonya (Jason) Dailey, West Linn, Ore.; Grandchildren: Holly (Brent) Paulsen, Jonathan Cotton, Megan (Jason) Dudley, Sarah Cotton, Shelbie Gaskin, Kanoa Gaskin, Steven (Amanda) Harmon, Stacia (Richard) Fuller, Sommer (Sam) Lairson, Cameron (Lindsey) McWilliams, Rebekah (Eric) Pierson, Emah (Dylan) Herrington, Salinah (Gage) Coil, Jordan (Maddie) Dailey, Brandon Dailey and 34 Great-Grandchildren; Brothers, Leroy (Sandy) Weber, Moses Lake, Wash., Larry (Suzan) Weber, Franktown, Colo., and her sister, Jean Elley, Vestavia, Ala.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.  Sherry’s family will great friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Roberson Funeral Home (1107 South 25th Street, Bethany, Mo. 64424).  Interment in the Coffey Cemetery will follow services. 

Memorials in Sherry’s name are suggested to the McCook E-Free Church or the McCook Heritage Senior Center.  Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
