Russell Lynn Simpson, age 54, passed Friday, July 3, 2020 at his residence in Lawtell, Louisiana.
Mr. Simpson was a born in Kansas City, MO, grew up on the family farm in Ridgeway, MO and was a resident of Lawtell, LA at the time of his passing. As a teen he loved playing baseball and basketball. He graduated from Ridgeway R-V High School, and immediately enlisted into the US Air Force. During his career in the military, he proudly served his country for over twenty years. Russ proudly served during Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom. As well as several other conflicts during his service.
Russell was a farm boy by nature, a real handyman, a hard worker, loved sports, and surprisingly, was an artist at heart. As much of an outdoorsman as he was, he was also a painter and a metal worker. Russell loved his children and enjoyed the time they shared together. He and his son, Thad, loved to fish together; it was a favorite pastime of theirs. Russ coached is daughter, Tatiauna’s softball and basketball teams; she is a Daddy’s girl through and through. Russell was selfless to a fault. He will be so missed by his beloved children and grandson. Russ was married to Zena Jones, the mother of his children, they divorced but remained friends and communicated often. Zena’s family remained close to Russ as well.
Survivors include his children, Thadeus Simpson and Tatiauna Simpson; one grandson, Tiquan “TJ” Lang, Jr.; his father, Gary Simpson; one brother, Randy Simpson and his wife, Ashley; one sister, Pamela Simpson Cox and her husband, Garrett; and his nieces and nephews, James Cox, Nicholas Cox, Kristy Cox, Anastasia Simpson, and Austin Simpson.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth McCollum Simpson; and one niece, Jeanie Cox.
