Roscoe Gilbert Shipley died February 7, 2020 at North Kansas City Hospital, NKC, MO.
He was born March 6, 1919 on the family farm south of Mt. Moriah, MO to Ollie (Hamilton) and Joseph Shipley. He attended the Wooderson School (grades 1-8) and graduated Mt. Moriah High School in 1937.
On June 8, 1940 he was united in marriage to Maxine Billups. During their 61 years of marriage they farmed in Harrison and Mercer Counties before moving to Ames, Iowa in 1948. Roscoe worked for Clyde Black & Son Hybrid Seed Corn Company and Hach Chemical Company. From 1977 – 1994 they lived in Loveland, Colorado where Roscoe continued working for Hach Company until retirement. In 1994 they moved to North Kansas City.
Roscoe’s favorite hobby was visiting and interacting with people. He had a servant spirit, always engaged in neighborhood, church, and community activities. He and Maxine enjoyed gardening, square dancing, playing cards, and traveling. He was an active participant in Lion’s Club service projects. Roscoe started acrylic painting at the age of 92. He enjoyed learning new skills and sharing his art work of birds and nature.
Roscoe was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers (Donald and Gordon).
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Donna & John Zaiger; granddaughters, Bethany and Teresa; great-grand-children, Lucas and Ava; sister, Maudine Dinsmore and several nieces and nephews.
Services were February 11, at Barry Christian Church in Kansas City, MO with graveside services and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery north of Ridgeway, MO at 2:30 pm. Local arrangements: Bethany Memorial Chapel. Tributes may be left at www.bethanymemorialchapel.com.
