Graveside services for Bob Johnson, 91, of Sherman, Texas will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 28th, 2020 at Friendship Cemetery on Friendship Road in Sherman, with Rev. Matthew Perkinson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. Mr. Johnson passed away after a short illness on December 25th, 2020 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX.
Bob was born June 2nd, 1929 in Bethany, Missouri the eldest child of Dean D. and M. Illeene Wethered Johnson. Bob graduated from Bethany High school in 1947 and attended William Jewell College 1947-49 and graduated University of Missouri in 1950. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Elizabeth (Marybeth) Cushman June 4th, 1950 in Bethany MO. Bob taught high school mathematics and science in Blue Springs, MO, and North Kansas City, MO from 1950-52. He later worked as a chemist for International Milling Co. in Ponca City, OK and Minneapolis, MN from 1952-1957 and was then employed by Texas Instruments where he worked as a Quality Control Engineer, Process Engineer and Quality Control Manager from 1957-85. in Texas.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife Marybeth Cushman Johnson and brother William F. Johnson. He is survived by his sister Janet S. Nickerson of Paris, TX, son Robert B. (Nancy) Johnson of Fayetteville AR, son John Barry (Gail) Johnson of Sherman, TX, son James Bradley (Lisa) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, TX, son William H. Johnson of McAlester, OK, and daughter Beth (Mark) Payne of Lake Kiowa, TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Bob had many hobbies that he enjoyed, but his passion was operating his Amateur Radio (HAM) Station. He operated HAM radio from 1954-2020 under call signs K5LIW and W5TO.
Bob was a 12th generation direct descendent of Captain John Johnson who came from England with Governor Winthrop on the ARBELLA in 1630 to establish the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Pallbearers will be Jake Carriveau, Austin Lash, Mark Payne, Allan Johnson, Preston Johnson, Barry Johnson, and Brad Johnson.
