Phyllis Kathleen Ledgerwood, age 101, the daughter of Earl and Zella (Butler) Hagan, was born May 31, 1917, at Saline, Missouri and died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on March 14, 2019.
Phyllis attended country school at Saline, Missouri and graduated from Princeton High School. She attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri. She returned to Saline to teach and also taught at Akron and Victor country schools.
On April 20, 1938, she was united in marriage to Morris Ledgerwood at Trenton, Missouri. They were blessed with two daughters, Joyce and Janet.
Phyllis was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church before St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cainsville, Missouri. She was the organist and cantor for many years. She later attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand River, Iowa.
She was a 4-H community leader for several years, and a dedicated farm wife. She was a hard worker and loved the farm life.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Morris Ledgerwood; son-in-law, Dan Maroney; sisters, Freeta Simons of Camarillo, California and Barbara Naomi McReynolds of Lenexa, Kansas; parents-in-law, Flossie and Rolly Ledgerwood; brother-and sister-in-law, Warren and Catherine Ledgerwood; and brother-in-law, Richard Simons of Camarillo, California. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Maroney of Noblesville, Indiana and Janet Stoll and husband, Rex of Lamoni, Iowa; grandchildren, Dana (Brad) Burton of Noblesville, Chris (Teresa) Stoll of Lamoni, and Mike Maroney of Carmel, Indiana; great grandchildren, Kyle (Kallie) Stoll and Chase (Danica) Stoll, all of Lamoni, and Joseph and Jordan Burton of Noblesville; and step great grandson, Brett Boswell of Dripping Springs, Texas; great, great grandchildren, Sawyer, Nola, Emersyn, and Zella Stoll, all of Lamoni; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019. A Rosary service will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon at 6 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2019, with family receiving friends following at 6:30-8 p.m.
