Paul Junior Shain 87, Cedar Rapids, IA (formerly of Bethany, Mo.) passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Northbrook Manor Care, Cedar Rap-ids, IA. He was born to Paul D. and L. Marguerite Shain on the family farm near Eagleville, Mo. on November 25, 1931. Paul enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served from 1952 to 1956 when he was honorably discharged. Upon dis-charge from the Navy, he returned home to Bethany, Mo., and married Nancy Jane Baumgardner on Septem-ber 27, 1957. Over his life he held a variety of careers. Working for the Bethany Republican-Clipper, own-er/operator for the Bethany Lanes, City of Bethany as water supervisor machinist, welder at Calhoun Manu-facturing and maintenance for Hub Hotel / Golf course. A jack-of-all-trades and a master of many, Paul was the one who could fix it. After retiring Paul moved the fami-ly to Harrison, Arkansas where he joined old friends and made many more. While there he sometimes tink-ered in maintenance to earn a little cash, however, he mainly was retired to his hobby of fishing around the Ozarks and enjoying life. Here in Sep-tember, 2007 Nancy, his wife of near-ly 50 years passed. As a young 82, he and Elizabeth moved once again; this time to Walker, Iowa to be closer to his son. His hobbies were as varied as his work experience. For many years he was an active member of the Ameri-can Legion in both Bethany, Mo. and Harrison, AR. For a time he served as post Commander in Bethany. Paul was also a member of the Bethany 40 & 8. He enjoyed riding motorcycles for fun and sport, motor cross racing and hill climbing; also spending time hunting and fishing for the local game, shoot-ing trap, and reloading ammunition. He was proceeded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Jane (Baumgard-ner); infant son, Paul Junior Shain II, and three granddaughters, Chasity Ann, Travis Jean and Paula Jeanette Hughes. Survivors include three children, Marguerite Jane (Michael) Woodward of Dover, Delaware, W. Charles (Car-ol) Shain of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Elizabeth A. Shain of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and three grandchildren, Heather Woodward, Christan Patterson, and Bruce Shain. Funeral services with Military Rites were, February 1 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo. Burial followed in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, Mo.
