Coffey, MO: Nina Jean Read, age 90, of Coffey, Missouri, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Cross Plains, Tennesee. Memorial services will be conducted this spring in Missouri.
Jean was born on March 10, 1931, in Bethany, Missouri, to the late Manley and Leta Hagler Salmon. She was a member of the Christian Church. She was a postmaster for the US Postal Service for several years. In her free time, Jean loved raising her seven children, reading, sewing, square dancing, working jigsaw puzzles, and volunteering with the local 4-H Club. In addition to her parents and brother, Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James Read, on July 31, 2021.
Jean is survived by her children and their families, Jeri and John Turpin of Osage Beach, Mo., Jean and Kevin Dudley of Cross Plains, Tenn., Jan and Rex Hagler of Coffey, Mo., Janie Travis of Coffey, Mo., Jim Read of Pueblo, Colo., Jeff Read of Coffey, Mo., and Joe Read of Pattonsburg, Mo., and by her sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grand children, and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Greta Pierce of Lamoni, Iowa, Karen Hamilton of Fort Smith, Ark., and Jonell Sutherland of Bethany, Mo.
Robertson County Funeral Home in Springfield, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.
