Max Lee Courter Jr., known by everyone as “Lee” died on Thursday, September 3, 2015, in Bethany, Missouri. Lee was born in Savannah, Georgia, on March 5, 1964, to Max and Joyce (Bryant) Courter.
Lee graduated from Coffey R-1 in 1982 and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1982 until 1987. He served as a Crew Chief on F-4C Phantoms. During his service in the Air Force, he was awarded the Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Training Ribbon, and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Lee was Past Commander of American Legion Post 216 of Bethany, MO and was a patriot who served his country with distinction and honor.
Following his return to Coffey in 1994, Lee began working for what is now Murphy Brown Farms. This was more than a job for Lee, his co-workers became his second family. His daily exchanges with these work friends will be missed by all.
It can truly be said that Lee never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone that he met and find something in common or a shared acquaintance. He had an infectious laugh that could be heard across the room. He was a devout Christian and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Bethany and taught Sunday school for many years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Charles and Lavo Courter and Ernest and Geneva Bryant.
Lee is survived by his parents; wife, Janese and children, Max Lee Courter III (Beth), Jarrod David Lee, Jessica Lee Anne, Greg, Jon, and Jennie; grandchildren, Tiffany, Cassy, Juliann, Maddy, Cadence and Drake; sister, Tammy (Dennis); brothers, Richard (Wendy) and Philip (Laura) and many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Lee was joyful upon learning recently that he was to be a grandfather to Max and Beth’s first child but will now watch over this child from his heavenly home.
