Marjorie Elaine Wells nee Crabtree, died on Sunday 15 September 2019, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, after a long illness.
Born in 1938 in Bethany, Mo., to Houge and Vesta Crabtree, Marjorie was raised on a small farm with her three brothers. After graduating high school, she attended Park College in Parkville, Mo., where she met her husband, Jack Wells of McLouth, Kan. The two were married in 1960. After earning their undergraduate degrees, both attended graduate school at the University of Michigan, where Marjorie earned a Masters degree in Political Science.
In 1972 Jack and Marjorie moved to Nashville. Marjorie went to work for Metro Public Schools, and retired after two decades of employment in the Federal Programs section.
Marjorie was gifted with keen intelligence, a wonderful singing voice, and a love of music, especially piano. She was also an avid reader of both fiction and history, a birdwatcher, and a gardener. She had a sly sense of humor and dry wit, but she was known by her friends and family primarily for her kindness and warmth.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, two sons, Daniel and Douglas, a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, and two grandchildren Russell and Richard, as well as his brothers, Norman and Gary Crabtree. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
