Gilman City, MO: Linda Sue Milligan, 81, of Gilman City, Mo., passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 at her home.
She was born to George and Faye (DeMasters) McHenry on October 1, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo.
She graduated from High School in Smithville, Mo., and the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., with a Bachelor’s Degree in art.
While in high school she met the love of her life, John Herman Milligan, through the local 4-H club. They were married on June 11, 1966 in Smithville, Mo.
As newlyweds, Linda and John spent almost two years in the Peace Corps in India where Linda taught sewing and cooking to local children and John worked in agriculture. They returned to Kearney, Mo. for a while and then settled on a farm near Gilman City, Mo.
Linda and John raised two children on their farm, Cammie and Wyatt.
Linda taught art and Spanish for over 40 years at several schools in Platte, Harrison, and Grundy counties. Linda cared deeply for her students and put great effort to make her classes interesting and fun.
She was a creative spirit and applied her talents in many ways whether it was through oil and watercolor painting, design of the Young Farm Wives cookbook cover, teaching sewing in 4–H, crafting items for the Blue Ridge Church Lord’s acre sale, or building miniature landscapes for model trains. She loved doing sewing and art projects with her grandchildren as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by her husband John, of the home, her sister Marilyn Matthews (Dan) of Smithville, Mo., her sister-in-law, Jean Babcock of Independence, Mo., daughter, Cammie Garofolo (John) of Superior, Colo., and son, Wyatt Milligan ( Stacey) of Kearney, Mo.; grandchildren, Kyra Steins (Craig), Brennen Muller, Jacob Milligan, Paige Muller, Audrie Milligan; great granddaughter, Lillyanne David, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Roberson Funeral home, 1107 S. 25th St. Bethany, Mo. 64424. A visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
