Kenneth P. “Kenny” McLain, 62, Cainsville, MO. passed away at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO., Thursday, March 25, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.
Kenny was born on September 10, 1958 in Cortez, CO. to Bill and Doris (Belt) McLain. Kenny spent most of his early years living in Cainsville, graduating from Princeton High School in 1976. Kenny lived in many states throughout his life including California, Montana, Oregon, New Mexico and Colorado, retuning to Missouri at the request of his father and ailing mother. Kenny was a devoted son and when his mother passed away in 2009, Kenny continued to live with his father, caring for him until he passed in 2014.
Kenny had a strong work ethic having worked laying floor covering and took pride in his work. Since 2016 Kenny has been employed in maintenance by Hines Mechanical in St. Joseph. He worked as the property caretaker for Virginia Humphrey and Brenda Hines in Cainsville but was more importantly, their friend. Kenny was very fond of Nadine Thompson, taking great care of her roses and lawncare needs.
Kenny’s true time of joy was when he played music, both with his family and with Lee “Ramblin’ Red” Melson and fellow musicians. Music was his heart and soul and he could name any artist when the song came on the radio. His mom would hear a song on the radio and call Kenny to “come dance” with her.
He enjoyed camping and fishing, classic country music, early rock-n-roll, playing the guitar, and woodworking. He was a passionate and opinionated man. How he lived was rooted in the circumstances and events which he experienced in his life.
Kenny was a Christian but believed he could worship God anywhere, especially in nature and chose to be outside the brick-and-mortar walls of a church.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Doris McLain and great-grandson Adam Lee Hendrickx.
He is survived by: one daughter Kenclena Rodriguez, grandchildren, Savahanna and Marlyn; and great-grandson Mesiah Adams all of Polson, Montana, siblings; Carol Ann Sherwood, Jeannie Hart, Ruth McLain, Marvin McLain and Bill McLain; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; best friend Dakoda Wright; close friends and neighbors and beloved dogs, Smiley and Milo.
Many loved Kenny and he will be sadly missed by his friends and neighbors. An earthly light has gone out but God leaves the porch light on, illuminating Kenny’s way home. When you hear a classic country song, or Del Shannon’s “Runaway”, think of Kenny and please keep him alive through your stories. .
