Winterset, IA: Kenneth L. Johnson, 89, of Winterset, Iowa passed away on February 15, 2023 at a Winterset nursing home.

He was born May 26, 1933 in Pawnee, Mo., and was raised by his Grandparents, Berry and Cynthia Johnson.

He married Barbara Padilla; four children were born to this union: Barry, Amy, Eddie and Rene. Later he married Dorothy Furnold; they celebrated their 50th Anniversary before her death in 2013.

Kenny attended school at Smith and Eagleville Schools and proudly had a long career as an owner-operator over-the-road truck driver. He never met a stranger. He loved his many shotgun riders, Pepper, Goldie, Speck, Little Girl and Sally. He had many fond memories of the Pawnee and Eagleville Communities and he loved camping at the Weddle Campground in The Nation.  Kenny ate so many Vienna Sausages that he said he should have owned stock in the company.

After Dorothy’s death. He resided at their favorite campgrounds near Santa Barbara, Calif. (Rancho Oso and Paradise- he loved telling people that he “lived in Paradise) and Bethany, Mo. Later he moved to Iowa under the care of Noretta Eigenheer and Tonya Core. After having a stroke, he moved into a nursing home.

He is survived by his children: Barry and Eddie Johnson, daughter Rene Sommer and his bonus daughters Vicki Allen and Earline Lewis, 2 brothers, Calvin and Jack Fish; sister Mary Cook. Caregivers/nieces, Patsy Polley, Amber Sanders, Noretta Eigenheer amd Tonya Core. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren, many, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his grandparents, his mother Amy Fish Harrison, two step fathers Virgil Fish and Harold Harrison, dad R.C. “Buck” Weddle, his sisters Virginia Cordle-Crabtree and Colleen Crabtree-Pickren, daughter Amy Steele-Ranni and infant son David Johnson. His body has been cremated with interment at a later date.
