Bethany, MO: Joyce Elaine (Viles) Lee, 86, Bethany, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

     She was born August 21, 1937, in Albany, Missouri, the daughter of Ervin Edward and Doris Pauline (Gibbany) Viles.

     On December 18, 1955, she married Wayne Franklin Lee who preceded her in death.

     Mrs. Lee’s departure marks the end of an era filled with unwavering dedication and profound compassion. Her profound impact on countless students during her tenure at Bethany Elementary and South Harrison High School resonates deeply within the community.

A devout member of the First Baptist Church of Bethany, Missouri, she not only practiced her faith fervently but also impacted its values through her role as a Sunday School teacher. Joyce’s love for quilting was evident to all who knew her, each stitch a testament to her creativity and patience.

     Her teaching legacy extends beyond the classroom, as she brightened the lives of those around her with her infectious smile and warm spirit. As a devoted mother, she poured endless love and wisdom into her family, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

In addition to her passion for education, Joyce found joy in the kitchen, where her baking and cooking talents brought joy to gatherings and comfort to many. Her culinary creations, much like her teaching, were infused with love and care.

     Though she may have departed from this world, Joyce’s impact remains etched in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and generosity will continue to inspire and uplift future generations.

     Survivors include her son, David (Tammy) Lee, Bethany, Missouri; her daughter Stacy (Don) Carrick, Country Club, Missouri; sister-in-law Doloris (Ted) Marr, Apollo Beach, Florida; brother-in-law Eugene (Rose) Lee, St. Joseph, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Franklin Lee, her parents Ervin Edward and Doris Pauline (Gibbany) Viles, stepmother Hazel (Barnes) Viles and three siblings including James Edward, Robert Eugene and Mary Louise.

     Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, at the First Baptist Church, 302 North 22nd Street, Bethany, Missouri under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home. Burial: Grandview Cemetery, Albany, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, at the First Baptist Church, 302 North 22nd Street; Bethany, Missouri.
