Iva Deane Pontius Simpson, 93, of Ridgeway, Mo., died January 6, 2016, at Crestview Home in Bethany.
Born June 6, 1922 on the family farm northeast of Ridgeway, she live most of her life in Harrison County. She was united in marriage to William Howard Simpson on January 29, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Howard preceded her in death in June, 2005.
Iva Deane spent several years working at Scott’s Grocery in Ridgeway. The remaining years were spent working on their farm just west of Ridgeway. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She also spent many pleasant hours piecing beautiful quilts and lap robes. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Ridgeway.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hannah (Dennis) Pontius, brothers: Russell, Philip and Clayton; sisters, Mahala Barker and Helen Carter; nephews: Phillip William Pontius, Eugene Pontius, Maurice Pontius, Arlin Neal Carter; Nieces: Joan Cackley, Pauline Riley, Helen Dale Simpson.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews including: Dale Pontius (Lois), Ridgeway, Laurannah Pontius Haynes (Bill), Moberly, Mo., Ronal Carter (Janet), Lees’ Summit. Mo., and Clyde Barker; Dawn Youngkin (Dwight), Maryville, Ohio, Beverly Pontius, Bellview, WA, Edna Carter, Sand Springs, Ok., Barbara Barker, Amarillo, Tx., Bill Cackley, Hannah City, Ill., Marianna Pontius, Sterling, Ill., Gary Simpon (Elizabeth), Ridgeway, Kathy Simpson Carter (Danny), Gilman City, Mo., Deveryl Cowan, LaCygne, KS., and Jasper Simpson, Jr., KS. As well as other family and several wonderful friends.
Visitation and services were held at the Bethany Memorial Funeral Chapel followed internment at the Rose Hill Cemetery north of Ridgeway.
