Eagleville, MO: Helen June (Young) Cook, 94, Eaglevile, Mo., passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at her son’s home in Bethany, Mo.

Helen was born January 10, 1929 northeast of Blythedale, Missouri the daughter of Josephus Leonard “Joe” and Nora Alice “Hon” (Owens) Young.  She grew up on the farm where her grandparents had settled when they came to Missouri from Indiana by covered wagons about 1877.

She attended all eight years of grade school at Donaby country school and four years of high school at Blythedale graduating in 1947 as Salutatorian of her class.  She also attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri, where she obtained her teaching certificate.

On June 30, 1949, she married Richard Lee “Bud” Cook at the Christian church parsonage in Bethany.  To this union five children were born, Lonnie Roe, Kristy Lynne, Sally Gayle, Gina Michelle and Jeffrey Kent.

She taught school for three years at the Donaby country school and one year at the Mt. Pleasant country school before they were consolidated into the Blythedale School. She worked in several different cafes as a waitress for many years. In 1974, she started working as a sewing machine operator at Lambert Manufacturing in Bethany, retiring after 17 years.  She worked as relief Postmaster at the Blythedale Post Office for six years.  She also worked at the Eagleville Welcome Center in 2017 and 2018.  Helen enjoyed crafts and began sewing and setting up at craft shows in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri for several years.  She also enjoyed making quilts and made one for each grandchild.

Helen was a member of the Blythedale Saddle Club for a number of years and enjoyed attending parades and horse shows all over the area with Richard.  She served as President of the Blythedale Homemakers Club and served on the Harrison County Women in Agriculture Committee.  She served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Harrison County Senior Center and helped secure the present building location.  She was a member of the Eagleville Red Hat Society.  She accepted Christ at the Donaby Country Church when she was twelve and placed her membership at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in 1962.  While at Mt Pleasant, she taught Sunday school for the preschoolers, youth and young adults, helped with their summer Vacation Bible School program and served as Treasurer Clerk.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard of 43 years in 1992; daughter, Sally Gayle in 1955; brother, Archie Young in 2014; grandson-in-law, Casey LeHew in 2008 and grandson-in-law, Max Link in 2023.

Left to mourn her death are her sons, Lonnie (Patti) Cook, Jeffrey (Kelly) Cook; daughters, Kristy (Alan) Ourth and Gina (Robert) Pulliam; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Eagleville Christian Church, Eagleville, Mo., under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Eagleville, Mo.  Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Blythedale, Mo.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Cedar Hill Cemetery in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. box 46, Eagleville, Mo.  64442.  Online condolence may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com
