Bethany, MO: Harold Helton, 81 of Bethany, Mo., left his family and loved ones on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at a North Kansas City, Mo. hospital.
On June 18, 1943, he was born and spent his youthful years on a farm East of Bethany and Mt. Moriah. He was the son of Ted O. and Alcie V. (Porter) Helton. They preceded him in death.
Harold had spent his life in and around Harrison County, except for his years as a Chief Mechanic on C-130’s as a member of the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, with time in Australia and the Pacific.
He attended Bethany schools where he enjoyed playing sports. This love of sports continued into his adulthood with a great passion for golf, and he was very accomplished – winning several tournaments.
“Highway”, as many knew him, ended a long career with the Missouri Highway Department as the manager of the area maintenance shop.
He followed that career with many years at Pettijohn Automotive where he continued developing lifelong friendships with all of the owners he was in contact throughout NW Missouri.
The love of his life passed earlier this year, his wife of nearly 40 years, Helen Helton, on January 2, 2024.
He will be deeply missed by his stepchildren, Randy (Stacey) Ward and Lisa Ward, and his grandson, Ian Ward.
Harold has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo.
A celebration of life will be held later in August and the time and location will be announced then. Please make memorial donations to the City of Bethany’s dog & cat shelter fund in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, Mo. 64424.
