Independence, MO: Garry Dean Carter, 80, of Independence, MO (formerly of Bethany and Pattonsburg, MO) passed away Monday, August 5, 2024 at an Indpendence, MO nursing home.
He was born January 6, 1944 in Daviess County, MO the son of Emil and Opal (Smith) Carter.
On July 20, 1968, he married Maryke deJong in Pattonsburg, MO. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2013.
Garry served in the United States Army in Germany. He was a correctional officer for the prison in Cameron, MO.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bernadine Taylor, Iretha Robertson and Emily Shaw; brother, Bill Carter; niece, Danielle deJong and nephew, Mark deJong.
Survivors include his sons, Steven (Naite) Carter of Lawson, MO, Scott (Julie) Carter of Poteau, OK and Greg (Tiffany) Carter of Overland Park, KS; 9 grandchildren, Trevor, Valu, Eugene, Clint, Bradley, Skylan, Sydney, Colton and Maryke; 7 great-grandchildren, Nafanua, Uriah, Gracie, Jaylen, Jayden, Helaman and Je`Vonn and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial with Military Rites will follow in McFall Cemetery, McFall, MO.
