Ridgeway, MO: Elizabeth Rose Brooks, 92, of Ridgeway, MO passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Jefferson City, MO.
She was born on March 30, 1924 near Mt Moriah Missouri, the daughter of Hiram Grover and Etta Leora (Champlain) DePriest.
Elizabeth was united in marriage on August 4, 1956 at Prairie Chapel Church near her birthplace to Buck Hanan Brooks, Jr., who preceded her in death on May 3, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Doris Dale DePriest.
She was a 1941 graduate of Bethany High School. She took her first teaching job at 17 and spent her career of 41 ½ years in the education system. This included teaching in elementary, junior high and high school as well as serving as an administrator. Her teaching experience took her to Texas, Florida and Idaho as well as local stops at Bethany, Gilman City and Ridgeway, MO. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bethany.
Elizabeth loved her family and friends and relished living on the ancestral farm homesteaded by her grandfather. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at her church, sitting at the hospital auxiliary gift shop and card playing.
Survivors include a son, Buck H. (Lynne) Brooks, III and grandchild, Zach Brooks all of Holts Summit, MO; sister-in-law, Laura DePriest, Bethany, MO; 3 nephews, Dr. Michael DePriest and Barbara Braznell and Donald (Jan) DePriest all of St. Joseph, MO and Grover (Sondra) DePriest, Savannah, MO and a niece, Elizabeth DePriest and Donald Weaver, Roeland Park, KS.
Funeral Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. A visitation will follow the service until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
