BETHANY, MO: Edna Victoria (Casady) Murray, 98, of Bethany, MO passed away on March 7, 2017 after a brief stay at Bethany Care Center, Bethany, MO.
She was born October 13, 1918 in Ringgold County, Iowa, the second daughter of Henry and Ethel (Laird) Casady. First born was Lovena, then Edna, third Anna Beth and fourth, Alberta. These girls had many stories to tell of their childhood and growing up years. They were raised on a farm where they had many chores to do. Lovena helped her mother with household chores while Edna and Anna Beth were helping their father with outside work. Alberta was seven years younger than her sisters, so she just followed the others around. Edna loved to carry Alberta on her hip and keep her close to her. The girls would tell of riding horses to school in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Sometimes they would ride their horses to and from school the same day and sometimes they would stay with relation in town during the school week. Another story that was frequently mentioned was that Edna won a Blue Ribbon at a Baby Show for which her family was well-pleased.
Regular church attendance was very important in this family. On both sides of the family, many family members were awesome singers and musicians. Never a family reunion was held without a songfest. Many songs being church hymns.
In the mid 1930ās, the family moved to Bethany and the girls attended Bethany High School. While attending high school in Bethany, Edna met a neighbor boy who was a class ahead of her in school. Garland and she became good friends and were married on May 22, 1937 at the Bethany Christian Church. A son, L.E., was born in March of 1939 and 15 years later, Linda was born in January 1954. On June 1, 1975, Sam Anderson married Linda at the same church building and was welcomed into this family as their own. He later became known to Edna as the āCow Manā, meaning he was the one who took care of the cows.
Edna was the most wonderful cook of all times. She prepared three meals a day for her family. She enjoyed gardening in her younger years. Her favorite was meeting up with her neighbor lady, Edith Weller, to go out and pick gooseberries. Once the berries were stemmed, these very delicious gooseberry pies would appear in the kitchen. We couldnāt eat them all because some had to be saved and frozen for the Lordās Acre Sale at the church in the fall. She enjoyed her church ladies and helped serve funeral meals.
In the past five years, Edna developed Alzheimerās disease. Otherwise, she was very healthy and was able to stay in her own home with L.E. being her full-time caregiver. Linda and Sam would help out when needed and also acted as chauffeurs.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garland, on April 14, 2000; her sister, Lovena in 2000 and her sister, Anna Beth in 1999. Also preceding her were her brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Survivors include her son, L.E. Murray and daughter, Linda (Sam) Anderson, both of Bethany, MO, and her sister, Alberta Fowler, formally of Eagleville and now of King City Manor, survives along with a total of seven nephews from her sistersā families.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Morris Chapel Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
