Dorothy Reeve Roberts, 1921-2018
BETHANY, MO: Dorothy Rhea (Hickman) Reeve Roberts, 97, Bethany, MO passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at a Bethany, MO nursing home.
Dorothy was born April 18, 1921 in Ridgeway, Missouri, one of seven children born to Elgin and Lorana (Chapman) Hickman. She attended Pleasant Valley School for eight years and graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1939.
The family regularly attended the Pleasant Valley Church. Later they attended First Christian Church at Ridgeway. In 1957, Dorothy became a member of the First Christian Church in Bethany where she served as deacon for several years.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne Roberts on July 22, 1939. To this union, five children were born: Annetta, Raymond, Noveta, Janice, and Roger Wayne.
Dorothy loved the country and enjoyed raising her children on a farm. She receive pleasure in planting a garden and canning vegetables for the family.
Wayne and Dorothy bought a farm southwest of Bethany in 1964. They celebrated the 25th anniversary soon after moving to the farm.
Wayne passed away September 4, 1971. She continued to live on the farm.
On October 20, 1978 she married Harold Reeve and they continued to live on the farm. Harold passed away September 28, 1988.
Harold and Dorothy enjoyed the ten winters spent in Texas, Arizona, and Florida.
She was employed at the University of Missouri Extension Center for 22 years. Dorothy was a member of the Harrison County Community Hospital Auxiliary, Harrison County Genealogy Society, AARP, RSVP, and volunteered in the Tourist Information Center for several years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Elgin and Lorana Hickman; husbands, Wayne Roberts and Harold Reeve; son, Roger Wayne; 3 sisters, Juanita Craig, Hazel Eivins, Deloris Damewood; 2 brothers, Leroy and Garvin Hickman; sisters-in-law, Muriel and Lillian Hickman; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Craig, Arnold Harrold, William Damewood, son-in-law, Tom Sloan; and a step-daughter, Janet Russell.
She is survived by her son, Raymond (Shirley) Roberts; daughters, Annetta Sloan, Noveta (Joe) Funk, Janice (Barry) Findley; step-son, George (Karen) Reeve; step-daughter, Judith (Irl) Slaughter; sister, Thelma Harrold; 13 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 18 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ridgeway, MO. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
