Bethany, MO: David Lyman Long, 65, Bethany, MO passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at his home.

     He was born on August 24, 1956 the son of Allen L. and Thelma ā€œLouiseā€ (Whited) Long.

     On December 31, 1980, he married his best friend and love of his life, Mary Bumgardner in Bethany, Missouri. They were married for 41 years.

     David graduated from South Harrison High School in 1974 and then worked construction for years before deciding to go back to school to get his teaching degree. He attended Northwest University and graduated in 1993 and taught for several years. He was proud and humbled by the many students he was able to positively impact and support during his tenure turning many students into lifelong friends. He loved helping others and while teaching he also coached girlsā€™ softball, junior high football, track and his own daughters softball teams while they were younger. He loved watching the Chiefs and many high school sports as well as spending time with his family; especially his ten grandchildren. He also loved riding and working on his Harley.

     David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bethany, MO and a Boy Scout and member of the Tribe of Micosay.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lynda Long.

      David is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; daughters, Jennifer Findley (Rocky Dunkin), Trenton, MO, and Emily Sunderman (Derek), Lathrop, MO; grandchildren, Jenna, Bailey, Ella, Hadlie, Blaine, Ava, Parker, Ryder, Kelsyn, and Soldier; twin brother, Doug (Penny) Long, Bethany, MO; brother, Mark (Karen) Long, Cameron, MO; sister, Myra Moore, Leeā€™s Summit, MO; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of students and friends.

     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 7 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the David Long Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424.
