Bethany, MO: David Lee Carpenter, 65, of Bethany, MO passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at a Columbia, MO hospital.
He was born May 3, 1959 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Durl and Ruth (Terry) Carpenter. He grew up in Gilman City, Missouri and attended Gilman City School. After the passing of his mother, he was raised by his aunts and uncles, Ed and June King of Princeton, MO and Bud and Mary Rose Terry of Gilman City, MO.
He began his career as a Roofer after leaving high school. In 1988, he met the love of his life while working in Phoenix, Arizona. They traveled from hailstorm to hailstorm and city to city roofing while raising 3 children.
They settled down in Bethany, Missouri in 2002. His hobbies kept him occupied gardening, collecting different time periods of barbed wire and making many things of barnwood as he was a skilled carpenter. David and Ruth enjoyed and benefited from scrapping and gravestone restoration.
In addition to his mother, Ruth, he was also preceded in death by his father, Durl and sister, Twila Cook.
Survivors include the love of his life, Ruth Dougherty; son, Danny (Stacy) Dougherty; daughters, Heather (Shawn) Manley and Courtney Carpenter and partner (Brandon Wynne); grandchildren, Hayden and partner (Tabby), Brianna, Angel, Jonathan, Kaleb, Abby, Oliver, Daniel, Elliot, Madison and Kierstin; great-granddaughter, Lakelyn; sister, Teresa Lewis; brother, Steve (Mary) Carpenter and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery, Melbourne, MO.
