Bethany, MO: Darryl Lee Youngman, 65, Bethany, MO (formerly of Clarinda and Villisca, IA) passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 at a St. Joseph, MO hospital.
He was born on March 14, 1953 in Baldwin Park, California the son of Charles Jr. and Doretta (Madison) Youngman.
Darryl was a graduate of Clarinda High School in 1971 and went on to attend William Penn College where he was a freshman playing on the varsity football team. On December 17, 1971 while coming home from college, Darryl Lee had an accident which left him physically unable to play football ever again. He was an avid Chiefs fan. He loved to work with his uncle on the farm raising Angus cattle. Darryl was an artist and painter and won awards at the Northwest Missouri State Fair for his work. Stray cats always seemed to find Darryl Lee for a source of food. He was a blood donor until the doctor told him he couldn’t qualify for the Red Cross Donor List so he became a permanent phone caller for the Red Cross calling list. Darryl was a member of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Youngman, Jr. and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Darryl is survived by his mother, Doretta Youngman of the home; aunt, Phronsie Conway; uncle, Charles Madison; several cousins including special cousin Lydia Youngman, and Chris Young who was an endearing, close friend and considered family.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 21 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where friends may call from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
