Bethany, MO: Daniel E. “Dan” Lee, 65, of Bethany, MO passed away Friday, June 21, 2024 surrounded by family in Kansas City, MO.
Dan was born in Manchester, Iowa on September 3rd, 1958 to Daniel Edwin and June Ilene (Jones) Lee.
He married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Werning), in 1977 in Vinton, Iowa.
Dan was well-known for his strong work ethic; wherever he worked, he was commended for his dedication and his ability to connect with every customer. He worked for Hy-Vee for many years.
In his free time, Dan enjoyed reading, golfing, and grilling. He cherished memories of his travels, particularly celebrating his son’s United States Marine Corps recruit training graduation in San Diego, visiting his sister in Wyoming, and attending NASCAR races in Newton, Iowa. Dan was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs and he treasured the occasions he saw both teams play in person. He also enjoyed attending rock concerts with his daughter (The Stadium Tour: Motley Crew, Poison, Joan Jett, Def Leppard and Billy Joel/Stevie Nicks).
The greatest joys in Dan’s life were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Though he often boasted about his family, he modestly downplayed his numerous acts of kindness and charity towards others, including being a member of the Lions Club and Vice-Chairman of the Bethany Senior Center. He did much without expecting anything in return, and he will be deeply missed.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Gladys; brother, Charles Lee; father-in-law, Robert Werning; son-in-law, Clinton Kern; and brothers-in-law, John Werning and Robert Lathrop.
He leaves behind his wife Carol; children, Jennifer (Benjamin) Watt, Katrina (Stalin) Somarriba, Danielle Kern, Alexa (Joshua) Osmon, Nicholas (Danielle) Lee and Kaitlynn (Elijah) Black; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister Rebecca; numerous nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Darlene Werning; and other family and friends. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Assembly of God Church, Bethany, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Inurnment will be at a later date in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO. There is no visitation.
