Pattonsburg, MO:  Clayton Lee Stitt, 81, Pattonsburg, MO.  The sun rose for Clayton Lee Stitt on March 4, 1941, and the sun set for him on March 10, 2022 at a St. Joseph, Missouri hospital. Clayton was born at home in Pattonsburg, Missouri to Lawrence and Idas Etta (Holcomb) Stitt. He graduated High School in Pattonsburg in 1958 and was then married the same year to Janice DeWitt. Clayton and Janice were blessed with 4 children. Later in life, he was divorced and met Gwen Conn, whom he spent eleven years with before they married in 1994. Clayton unselfishly became a second father to Gwen’s 3 children.

Clayton was born and raised to be a farmer. He was a welder for Sweiger Shop, Inc. for 25+ years, and more recently drove trucks and farm equipment for multiple companies. Clayton had a knack for fixing all things mechanical. Clayton had many beloved hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, dancing, gardening, traveling, bowling and most importantly, tractor pulling.     Clayton belonged to Northwest Pulling Association, Twin States Pulling Association and to a bowling league for more than 20 years. Recently, he served on the board of the Pattonsburg Senior Center and he was a member of the Bethany First Assembly of God. Clayton was very friendly and personable, so much so, that he believed every new person was a friend he hadn’t yet met. Clayton’s best attribute was that he always looked for the good in people, even when nobody else could see it. Clayton loved to tell stories and jokes to keep people laughing with a fun-loving genuine nature. He was always there for his family and friends, and he was always eager to help anyone in need. He loved spending time with each of his 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, often including their friends as part of his family.

Clayton was preceded in death by his son, Michael Stitt and his parents, Lawrence & Idas Stitt.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Gwen Stitt, his sister, Betty Stratton, and his children, Marvin Stitt, Sandra Goble, Duane Stitt, Pamala Lambert, Trinity Walton, Hollie Walton and their spouses, significant others, families and an uncountable number of friends.

Clayton has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at the Assembly of God Church, Bethany, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens, Pattonsburg, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Clayton Stitt Memorial Fund to be designated later in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424.
