Bethany, MO: Carma Louise Burton, 89, Bethany, MO passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 at a Bethany, MO nursing home.
She was born January 6, 1929 in a small farm house just east of the Thompson River in Mercer County, Missouri the daughter of J. Oscar and Eva (Johnson) Runyan.
Carma graduated from Princeton High School in the class of 1947. On May 22, 1947 she married L. Harvey Hamilton and they had four children: Jim, Cindy, Pam and Terri before divorcing in 1966. She married her second husband, L. Dale Burton on May 10, 1970. Dale preceded her in death on July 14, 1977.
She began working for the Harrison County ASCS office in 1961 and worked there for 34 years before retiring in 1995.
Carma was a long standing member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and the Bethany Matron’s Club. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in Bethany, MO.
Besides her parents and her second husband, Dale, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Runyan; sister, Nadine McLain; sister-in-law, Dixie Runyan, and 2 grandsons, Jeffrey Ragan and William Hamilton.
Carma is survived by her four children, son, Jim Hamilton, Centralia, MO; daughters, Cindy (Rick) Slatten, Broken Arrow, OK, Pam (Ronnie) Cornett, Pattonsburg, MO, and Terri Sturdevant, Bethany, MO; brother-in-law, Loyd McLain, Independence, MO; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 26 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Harrison County Hospice and/or Miriam Cemetery in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O.
