Bethany, MO: Betty Joyce Eaton, 95, of Bethany, MO passed away Friday, August 30, 2024 at a Bethany, MO nursing home.

Betty was born July 9, 1929 to Vernon “Bud” and Beulah (Clawson) FitzGearlds in the farm house on a hill in Harrison County, Missouri.

When Betty was in first grade, she went to school in Brooklyn where her folks ran the store. The next 6 years she attended Piburn school where they lived on a farm.  They later moved back to Brooklyn to run the store again and Betty attended 7 -8th grade there.  While in 8th grade, Betty met and fell for a tall black haired, dark eyed boy named Cloyd Eaton.  Betty’s parents then moved to Bethany where Betty attended high school.  She quit in her second year and went to work for Wheeler’s Drug Store.  The next year, Betty and Cloyd were married on June 9, 1945, in Troy, Kansas.  In December 1946, a little girl was born and in 1950 a little boy was born.

Betty loved her children very much and they were kids to be proud of.  They lived 16 years on a farm then moved to Bethany where Betty went to work at Crestview Rest Home.  Betty worked at Wonder Bread for several years and later moved to Liberty, MO where Cloyd was employed.  Betty then worked for Western Auto in Liberty for several years.  They moved to Excelsior Springs, MO where she worked for Western Auto until a car wreck put a stop to it.  After Betty got well enough to work again, she worked at the hospital and later at True Value Hardware. After retiring, they moved back to Bethany to be close to her mother.  Betty worked the first summer there in the office of Best Western and later quit. Traveling a lot in their trailer, Betty and Cloyd spent their winters in Arizona for several years.

When Betty was in her early 50’s, she took the G.E.D. test and got her diploma.  Betty wrote several poems and put some of them to music.  She always liked to sing.  Betty liked everyone, some things she never liked about them, but still saw some good in them.  She always liked the saying, “do unto others as you would have them do to you, but do it first”.  She helped out on a program at the rest home for several years always saying if she just made one person happy that made her happy also.  Betty had a full good life.
