Independence, MO: Betty Jean (Hibbs) Salmon, 94 of Independence, MO passed away peacefully Saturday, July 3, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.
Betty was born October 12, 1926 in Jameson, MO to Gathyl and Gwenth (Geist) Hibbs.
She attended secretarial school in Kansas City and was the Office Manager for Lawn Mower Parks, Inc. in Independence for many years prior to retiring. She married Richard D. Salmon Sr. on June 10, 1944 and they enjoyed 60 years together until he passed in 2001. She was also predeceased by son, Ronald Dean Salmon in 1959.
Betty was a Cub Scout Leader and overall supporter of Scouting for many years. Three sons and three grandsons are all Eagle Scouts. She and Richard enjoyed nature and the out of doors, particularly bird watching. They travelled the southwest in their RV throughout their retirement.
Betty and Richard are survived by their eldest son, Richard Jr. and his children: Richard III, Lynda Marie Walker and Ruby Della; middle son, Raul and his wife, Jeannie and children, Ryan (Ambika), Tara Formann (Stephen), Steven Ashlock (Ashley), Laura Ashlock and Austin; youngest son, Ralph and his wife, Holly and their sons, Edmond and Phillip (JoLynn). She was proud of her family and having six great grandchildren: Layla and Hunter Walker, Henry, Reagan, Robert and Adelaide Ashlock. She is also survived by sister-in-law Colleen Hibbs (Gathyl, Jr.) and numerous nieces and nephews. Her siblings who preceded her in death: Marjorie Huff (Francis), JW Hibbs (Thelma) and Gathyl Hibbs, Jr. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Deena (Taylor).
Graveside Services and Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 9 in New Hope Cemetery, McFall, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO.
