Bethany, MO: Bethany’s old railroad depot on 12th Street was often crowded with soldiers boarding trains to prepare for fighting in the early days of America’s involvement in World War I. Hundreds of well-wishers would gather on the platform to say good-bye to the soldiers as they prepared to leave for St. Joseph and other points. Horse-drawn wagons were lined up at the dock to unload freight. One of the rail cars displays a banner for Company G of Bethany, which sent hundreds of soldiers to the war. This November marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the war. The photos were provided by Richard Fine.–Submitted photos
