Home base: Rosalie and Bill Linthacum spend a lot of nights traveling to far away gymnasiums to watch their grandkids play in basketball games. It is a custom that they have followed since their children were playing basketball and football on the high school and college level.

To understand Bill and Rosalie Linthacum’s love affair with basketball, you would have to go back to 1980 when their daughter, Lorna, played on South Harrison’s state championship basketball team—and even before that when their kids were shooting hoops on their farm east of Bethany.
This weekend, the Linthacums will be cheering on another generation of their family when their granddaughters Micah and Sarah Linthacum will be playing for the state Class 5A basketball championship in Springfield.
