Jeremiah Searles, who has been wanted for questioning in the disappearance of Melissa Chapman, has been taken into custody in Worth County, according to local authorities. The Worth County Sheriff’s Department would not release any information about his arrest or pending charges other than to say the “investigation is ongoing.” Ms. Chapman, Searles’ former girlfriend, was last seen on Aug. 23 and her car was found abandoned in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Searles had been out on bond pending a trial scheduled in Harrison County Circuit Court on kidnapping and assault charges. Ms. Chapman was scheduled to be a witness in that case. In a court hearing in Harrison County on Aug. 31, Searles’ bond was revoked and a new bond of $100,000 cash was set. Searles was wanted in Worth County for failure to register as a sex offender.
