Cotton pickin’ time

Ridgeway, MO: Miles and Kaylee McGovney of Ridgeway have been sharing the bounty of their crop of cotton near their home on East 220th Street. They are pictured with their 20-month-old son Hugh with a bushel basket of cotton. The McGovneys, who are natives of Oklahoma, decided to plant a field of cotton when they moved to Harrison County. Miles had previously raised cotton when he lived in Mississippi and thought the crop might do well even in the cold climate of northern Missouri. The cotton is used for decorative purposes in Kaylee’s business, Plantasia. She also uses sweet corn and other seasonal flowers to make bouquets. Area residents have been invited to their farm to pick their own cotton.–Republican-Clipper photo
