Ian Neighbor, left photo, smiles as he puts a 55-pound flathead catfish in the back of a pickup after he and conservation agent Josh Roller pulled the giant from the spillway of the New Lake. The catfish became trapped as water began to recede from the spillway after the recent heavy rains. The monster was unable to get downstream and back into the lake. Thanks to the efforts of Neighbor and Roller, the fish is back at home in the lake.
Bethany conservation agent Josh Roller and a volunteer had to rely on their muscle power to rescue a huge flathead catfish that got trapped in the spillway of the New Bethany Lake.
A passerby, Ian Neighbor, came across the catfish struggling in the spillway of the lake after water began to recede from the overflow of the reservoir.
