Bethany, MO: The bells of the Bethany First Christian Church peeled at 11:11 a.m. on Sunday morning, Nov. 11, to commemorate the precise time that the Armistice was signed to end the Great War between the Allies and the German Axis.
The ringing of the bells recreated the excitement 100 years ago when word reached here that the war was finally over after the deaths of millions on both sides. It was said that church bells also rang around the county on that first Armistice celebration.
