The following article contains a correction about the location of Mrs. Bennum’s funeral. It will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany.
Maudine Bennum, who chronicled life in New Hampton for several decades, died on Saturday, May 18, following a long illness.
Mrs. Bennum began as a columnist for the Republican-Clipperand Albany Ledgerfollowing the death of her mother.
After becoming ill several months ago, she bravely attempted to continue her column with the assistance of her daughter, Pat Lambert, and other members of the community who continued to call in their news.
“Maudine was part of a long line of country correspondents who wrote about the small events, and sometimes large events, that occurred in her hometown,” said Phil Conger, editor of the R.-C. “She carried on the tradition set by her predecessors who shared their love of community. She will be greatly missed by our newspaper staff and by her readers.”
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial will be at Foster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Roberson Funeral Home. (Mrs. Bennum’s full obituary can be found inside this week’s newspaper.)
