The City Council unanimously approved a motion by Councilman Todd Williams to push ahead with the South TIF District. Mayor Joe Johnson had asked for the TIF district to be dissolved because there wasn’t enough time to complete the improvements by the Nov. 16, 2017, deadline. Williams said he believes that there is enough time to finish the construction of the projects including the extension of 38th Street south of Walmart connecting with 30th Street, east of John Deere. Most of the taxing authorities who were due to benefit from the return of the TIF money said they would prefer that the money be kept in the TIF that the city proceed with the projects to promote community growth. The council voted 4-0 to overrule Johnson in dissolving the district.
