Opal Delores (Jones) Guernsey, 85, Bethany, MO passed away at home with her family on Thursday, December 31, 2015.
Opal was born the 8th of 12 children to Tonie and Lottie (Glick) Jones at the family farm near Denver, MO on May 18, 1930.
She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1948. On December 24, 1947, she married Wayne Guernsey of Holyoke, Colorado. They made their home in Bethany.
Opal was a homemaker and business partner with her husband who owned a dairy and milk hauling business, contracting with the Bethany Cheese Plant and later Mid-American Dairymen. Together they later owned and operated an over the road trucking company. Opal went to work for Crestview Home, where she retired after 27 years as a CNA. Upon retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and working in her yard and garden. Opal was a founding board member of the Bethany Public Library and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bethany, having accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 2005, her parents, 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
Survivors include four sons, Philip (Barbara), Cainsville, MO, Michel (Cheryl), St. Joseph, MO, Alan (Vicki), Bethany, MO and Mark (Karen), Ridgeway, MO; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Smith, Bethany, MO; brother, Larry (SunJa) Jones, Easton, MO; brother-in-law, Dan (Clo) Guernsey, Canyon City, CO; sisters-in-law, Doris Jones, Edna Mae Hartschen, Marilyn Jones, Rose Guernsey and Betty McBee and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO.
