Wilma Jean Ross, 85, of Pattonsburg, MO, passed from this life Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, MO.
Wilma was born December 5, 1930 near Bethany, MO the daughter of Wilber and Fannie (Swartz) Schroff. She attended Globe School in her early years and when the family moved to Martinsville, she graduated from the Martinsville School in 1949.
On October 7, 1950 she was united in marriage to Walter Sherman Bratcher. Two children were born to this union. Sherman preceded Wilma in death in 1983.
Wilma later married Kenneth Ross. She became a snow bird and spent winters in Florida and summer in Missouri. She enjoyed traveling and visiting different family members and places and making friends along the way.
Wilma worked several jobs during her years. They included the Cap Factory, waitress at Lois’ Café, cashier at the local grocery, Merrigan’s, Maloney’s, a clothing apparel store and Teel’s Package Store. Her smile and quick wit brought her many friends, but she almost always told it like it was!! And of course, driving a tractor either disking or hoeing in the field with her farmer husband, Sherman. She would cook a meal and take it to the field which made her a take out for fast food! She cooked roasts, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy!!! A full meal with dessert! She was a very good cook!
Wilma was a member of the Christian Church in Pattonsburg, and Ladies VFW Auxiliary 8824 of Pattonsburg where she served as president and other positions during the years. Wilma enjoyed the Auxiliary and volunteered for many projects helping veterans in the VA Hospital with lap robes and other items.
Wilma was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Wayne Bratcher; her parents; brother, Billy Wayne Schroff; and husband, Kenneth Ross.
She is survived by her daughter Judy (Roger) Pelletier, Clarksdale, MO; grandson, Anthony (Chris) Pelletier, King City, MO; and 2 great grandsons, Zachary and Dawson Pelletier; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 14 at Roberson Funeral Home, Pattonsburg, MO. Burial will follow in the Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens, Pattonsburg, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
