Nashville, TN: Ellen Mae Rucker Zimmerman, 88, Crofton, passed away Saturday, Mar 11, 2023 at Centennial Medical Center, Nashville, TN.
Visitation will be held 12-2 pm, Saturday, April 15 at New Palestine Baptist Church, Dawson Springs Road, Crofton with services to follow. Private burial will be held on Tuesday, April 18 in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville.
Born to Hanford and Lena Mae Rucker on September 5, 1934 in Mountain View, MO, Ellen was the fourth of five children. She married Bobby D. Zimmerman of Ridgeway, MO in 1952, and together they served this great nation through his 22-year career in the US Army. She continued her service as a dental assistant at the US Army Dental Activity, Ft Campbell and through her various volunteer activities in the local Crofton community. Her efforts were recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Award, Commander’s Award for Civilian Service and Achievement Medal for Civilian Service. She was cherished by all who knew her for her boundless energy, positivity, creativity, and unwavering kindness.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 64 years, she was preceded in death by brothers Ernest Roland Rucker, Estel Raymond Rucker, Freddy Leroy Rucker; and sister Doris Mary Goodson.
Survivors are her sons Billy (Laura) Zimmerman, Michigan, and Audie (Cynthia) Zimmerman, Florida; her daughters Bonnie (Terry) Cansler, Crofton and Sondra (Gregory) Marston, Illinois; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
