Enrollment holds steady at schools

Student enrollment has remained about the same at the start of the year for each of the county’s five school districts.

The schools have also released a list of their new teachers.

Total enrollment at South Harrison at the beginning of the new school year was 894 students in grades K-12. Enrollment for each grade: Kindergarten, 67; first, 77; second, 82; third, 72; fourth, 79; fifth, 73; sixth, 68; seventh, 71; eighth, 60; ninth, 66; tenth, 66; eleventh, 55; twelfth, 58.

New teachers at the early childhood center are: Mary Marsh, 4-year old preschool; Jodi Stephens, Parents as Teachers.

The elementary school added Kaley Gentry, kindergarten; Rhonda Booth, Title Reading; Erica Templeton, 3rd grade; Pam Fry and Angela Wilhelm, 4th grade; Charley Ramsey, 5th grade and Karen VanMeter, paraprofessional.

New at the high school and middle school are Staci Harvey, vocal music and middle school; Cameron Christensen, social studies, and Sara Lasher, SPED.

New high school teachers include Debbie Jackson, biology/anatomy; Chris Thomas, social studies; Mike Wilhelm, physical education and athletic director.

Katie Harvey replaces Brandi Ellis at the Career Center as the ag instructor. And Dwight Schell replaces Marvin Young as the technology director.

Enrollment numbers in pre-kindergarten, 8; K-6, 50; 7-12, 33. These are about the same numbers as last year.

New faculty: Principal, Kristi Weldon; Sariah Williams, PAT and preschool; Amy Burch, 5th and 6th grade; Leslie Neibauer, Title teacher; Janell Pottorff, special ed; Matt Dice- PE and health; Chase Dekrell, science; Charles Persall, social studies; Crystal Garner, business teacher

Ridgeway once again will be participating in co-op sports with Cainsville; softball has 4 boys and 3 girls playing.


North Harrison shamrockNorth Harrison

K through 6th grade enrollment is 111, same as last year at the time, with seven new students.

7 through 12th grade enrollment is 110, same as last year at this time, with four new enrollees.

The Early Childhood Center has 16 in three and four-year old preschool and 18 infants and toddlers, increased by one student over last year’s 20 Pre-K and 13 Infant/Toddlers on this date last year.

New staff members include Erica Eakes, High School Special Education instructor, Christine Sweeney as high school special education para-professional, Rose Waldeier as 6th grade instructor, Velma Johnson teaching Kindergarten, Chandelar Carey and Kadie Emig as elementary school special education para-professionals.

Enrollment numbers: preschool 16, k-6, 78; 7-12, 50 for a total of 144. This was down from 150 enrolled at the end of the last school year.

New teachers include Holly Meek, 5th grade; Amanda Obert, 4th grade; Kay Hendren, speech and 7th grade English

Junior high softball co-op with Pattonsburg North Daviess, Pattonsburg is the host.

The high school has three players for junior high and five junior boys football in the cooperative with Pattonsburg.

Hosting own high school varsity softball with 9 girls.

Enrollment numbers in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, 111. This is a slight decrease of nine students.

New teachers are 3rd & 4th grade, Jill West, alumni coming from Winston; Alex Irvin, high school social studies; Sandy Willis, retired from 3rd & 4th is now high school science; Brooke Loving, special ed moved from early childhood center; early childhood is Joanne Fisher.

Cainsville is in co-op with Ridgeway for athletic programs and scholar bowl. They share athletic director duties, which works well.
