Republican Mazzie Boyd of Hamilton defeated Democrat Lois Pontius of Ridgeway by 10,573 to 2,212 in the District 2 state representative race on Tuesday.
More than 50% of the county’s registered voters turned out for the mid-term election. County officials said the marijuana issue may have been a reason for the heavy vote in the county.
Boyd defeated Pontius by 2,351 to 372 votes in official Harrison County returns. Boyd will succeed J. Eggleston as the representative of the 2nd district.
Rusty Black defeated Michael Baumili by an 80% margin for state senator from the 12th District to succeed retiring senator Dan Hegeman. In Harrison County, the vote was 2,387 to 339 for Black.
Scott Fitzpatrick, with 59% of the vote, was elected state auditor over Democrat Alan Green. In Harrison County, the vote was 2,342 for Fitzpatrick, 334 for Green and 44 for Libertarian John Hartwig Jr.
Sam Graves won another term as U.S. representative from the sixth district with a 70% margin over Democrat Henry Martin. In Harrison Count, Graves received 2,367 votes to 319 for Martin and 46 for Liberal candidate Edward Maidment.
In a major statewide issue, Missouri voters approved the recreational marijuana amendment by a 63% to 46% margin. Harrison Count residents overwhelmingly rejected the issue by 866 to 1,814 votes.
In returns for contested countywide races, Lee Ann Miles received 2,450 votes to be elected county clerk; Alex T. Van Zandt received 2,488 votes to be elected to his first term as prosecuting attorney; Jack Hodge was re-elected as presiding commissioner with 2,479 votes; Sherece Eivins was re-elected as circuit clerk with 2,485 votes, and J. Hemenway was re-elected associate circuit judge with 2,498 votes.
