Bethany, MO: The Buchanan County Highlanders bagpipers will be making a repeat visit to Bethany for the Veterans Day Assembly at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, in the high school gymnasium.
The Highlanders have appeared at a number of assemblies and ceremonies in Bethany in recent years.
The South Harrison Veterans Day assembly will be led by the students, according to high school Principal Jason Slaughter.
Jane Smith, who wrote a collection of interviews with World War II veterans, will be one of the featured speakers. Bueford Cooper, an Air Force veteran from World War II and the Korean War, also will be speaking at the assembly.
Other Veterans Day programs planned for this week:
North Harrison
The Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, with guests welcome to start arriving at 9:45 a.m.
The band will be performing and elementary students will be singing some patriotic songs.
The guest speaker will be retired Command Sergeant Major Dale Putnam, who has been inducted into the Kansas National Guard Hall of Fame.
Veterans are invited to eat free at Woods & Main, compliments of Nail Excavating.
Cainsville
The Cainsville School will be holding a Veterans Day parade at 10 a.m. Friday starting at the ball park. The community has been invited to honor the service of our military heroes.
Ridgeway
The Ridgeway R-5 school will be hosting its Veterans Day program at 2:45 p.m. on Friday in the school gymnasium. The school will be serving pie and coffee to those in attendance. Speakers will be music instructor Annette Wilson and superintendent Jonnie Beavers.
Gilman City
The Gilman City R-4 school will be hosting its Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19. The NHS/FFA student council and the elementary music department will put on the program. The school will be serving lunch to veterans at 12:15 p.m.
