BETHANY, Mo. – A resurfacing project that will bring pavement improvements to U.S. Hwy 136 in Harrison County is set to begin this month, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The week of April 13, contractors will be working on erosion control along U.S. Hwy 136 in anticipation of a resurfacing project with shoulder improvements that will extend from Interstate 35 in Bethany to the Mercer County line. The erosion control efforts will be off the roadway surface, but will narrow the lanes of U.S. Hwy 136 to only 14-feet wide in each direction.

Once erosion control is completed, crews will mill off the old pavement at bridge transitions before laying asphalt. The milling is scheduled to begin the week of April 20 with asphalt work planned beginning April 27.

During the asphalt and shoulder work, a pilot car will be used to guide motorists through the work zone. Cars approaching U.S. Hwy 136 from a side road within the area of the project are asked to wait for the pilot car to avoid head-on collisions. The project is anticipated to continue into June.

Motorists should be alert and follow all construction signs and message boards. All work is weather permitting. MoDOT encourages all motorists to slow down, buckle up, eliminate distractions and drive safely through work zones to ensure everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
