Amarillo, TX: David Mack Jefferson went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 12, 2022. He was born in Bethany, Mo., to Mada Edwards Jeffeson and Willie Mack Jefferson on December 17, 1036.
David spent a big part of his youth in California State along with his folks and uncles on his dad’s side of the family. He was taught to fish in the ocean and his family camped along the water banks fishing and hunting.
His parents later moved back to Bethany in time for him to begin high school. His father was a painter by trade and David followed in his footsteps. David loved the outdoors. He especially loved hunting and fishing an continued to do so throughout his adult life. He had many fond memories of living in Bethany and spoke of them often. He was a great storyteller sharing stories of his dad, mother, friends and family.
David and his wife Carmen moved to Amarillo, Texas living and working there for quite some time. Dave and Carmen always had a couple of dogs and cats as he was an animal lover and so was she. David was an avid reader as well. He mostly enjoyed westerns, history and stories of the olden days. He knew everything there was to know about fishing, hunting, tracking and being able to make all kinds of knots to tie things, which he learned from his dad.
David loved going to resale shops, auctions, garage sales or anywhere he could find a good bargain. He especially loved collecting guns, knives and antiques. David had a talent for making things, especially with wood and loved using bright colors. He stated that he’s painted so many white walls in hospitals and business offices that he wanted to have color around him. Everyone to him was called partner and he didn’t know a stranger.
David leaves behind two daughters, Karol Dunkle (Donnie) and Kim Slay (Greg) of Mexico, Mo. from his first marriage to Syrena Withers Jefferson. He later married his wife Carmen Richie Jefferson and they were together for 45 years before her passing. David spoke of Carmen daily and the many memories they had made together.
David found the Lord and was baptized before he left this world. He knew where he was going and was not afraid to go. He told his daughters not to worry and that he would be fine. David was a step-father to Carmen’s children that he thought the world of as well. Theresa Brown, Mike Richey and Brian Richey.
David had multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Fern and Opal and step-son, Mike. Graveside services to be held on July 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Marion County Cemetery in Bethany, Mo.
