Bethany, MO: Sisters Molly, Megan, and Morgan Bottcher from Bethany are learning the tradition of quilt piecing through their 4-H projects. The 3 girls are instructed by 4h volunteer Pat Ellis. Pat learned quilting from her family and the tradition is now being passed on to another generation. The girls spend countless hours cutting, measuring, and piecing their quilt tops together on sewing machines. Once the quilt top is finished, it is layered together with backing fabric and batting and quilted either by hand or machine and then the edges are bound with fabric. The girls haven’t tackled the machine quilting yet but may in the future. The quilts are then displayed at 4H achievement day, the Missouri State Fair, and the Northwest Missouri State Fair.
