Rand Arthur Slama, 77, Bethany, Mo., passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany.
He was born on March 1, 1943 in Winnebago, Minn. the son of Arthur and Geraldine (Lobb) Slama.
On May 8, 1965 he married Sharon āJaneā Goodrich at Lake Lotawana Methodist Church in Lake Lotawana, MO. She preceded him in death on June 6, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers Elwood and Trenten Slama.
Rand proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of corporal prior to being Honorably discharged so he could start a family and follow his dream of being a farmer. He moved his family to Bethany in 1972 to work at Watson’s farm supply and started farming in 1975. Rand was a devout Christian and an active member of the United Methodist Church. He was a strong member of the community and served on the Ambulance and Sheltered Workshop boards, volunteered at the food pantry and was an active member of the American Legion serving as it’s Post Commander several times.
He is survived by his sons, Wade (Lisa) Slama of Versailles, Ky., and Chad (Kristen) Slama of Kansas City, Mo.; grand kidās, Korry, Landon, Patrick, Payton, Devlin and Marissa; sister, Maxine āMitzieā Gramstad; nephew, Scott and nieces, Jaydee, Jill, Arlette, Shelly and Angie.
A Celebration of Life was November 9 at First United Methodist Church in Bethany. Graveside services and burial with Military Rites was November 10 at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, Lees’s Summit, Mo., under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo.
