Marshall the Fire Dog, the Bethany Fire Department’s mascot, helped hand out treats to children attending last Thursday evening’s Scare on the Square. The children were able to collect their candy from a bucket suspended from the fire department’s ladder truck. Hundreds of children attended the annual Halloween event sponsored by the Bethany Area Chamber of Commerce. Prizes were awarded in a Halloween costume contest on the steps of the courthouse. Several local businesses sponsored booths around the courthouse block. The costume winners and other pictures from the event are inside this week’s newspaper.
