Ethan Billups, a 2019 graduate of Ridgeway R-V school, receives congratulations from Diane Coleman, left, and Ilene Smith after receiving the Harrison County Community Hospital Auxiliary scholarship. The $1,000 college award is presented by the auxiliary to students entering a health or medical field.
Billups is planning to complete an undergraduate degree in biological sciences at the University of Missouri-Columbia and then plans to attend medical school and specialize in pediatric rheumatology.
Mrs. Smith is the president of the hospital auxiliary and Mrs. Coleman is a member of the scholarship committee. Auxiliary volunteers operate the hospital gift shop and use profits to purchase equipment for the hospital and provide college scholarships to help support the next generation of health care professionals.
