Bethany, MO: Opal Dee Smith, 79, Bethany, MO passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 at her home.
She was born on May 27, 1939 in Montezuma, California the daughter of Leroy F. and Alice F. (Niccum) Hackett.
On November 29, 1957 she married Thomas H. Smith, Jr. in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2002.
Opal was a homemaker and was dedicated to life on the farm. Later in life, she was a dietary aide at several care facilities in Bethany, MO. She also served as Mayor of Ridgeway from 2010-2012. She was a member of the Eagleville Christian Church, WTL Club, Garden Club of Bethany, and the Lions Club of Ridgeway. She enjoyed crafting, reading, gardening and loved spending time with family.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters, daughter, Carla J. Smith-Fitzgerald and grandson, Joshua Lynn Smith.
Opal is survived by her children, Barb (Richard) Malcom, Bethany, MO, Jerry Smith, Stanberry, MO, Rick (Katrina) Smith, Savannah, MO, Paul (Kym) Smith, Applegate, CA, Marcia Evans (John Meek) Ridgeway, MO, Alan Smith, Cameron, MO, Rebecca (Isaac) Lopez, Chicago, IL, and James (Vanessa) Smith, Liberty, MO; 22 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sister, Eunice Wall, Cortez, CO and brothers, Clayton Hackett, California and Richard (Patty) Hackett, Cortez, CO.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17 at the Eagleville Christian Church, Eagleville, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Eagleville, MO. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.
